APHA honors top Novice Amateur, Amateur and Open competitors at 2007 World Show
FORT WORTH, TEXAS-During a special awards ceremony on July 7, 2007, the American Paint Horse Association recognized some of its top Novice Amateur, Amateur and Open competitors from the 2007 World Championship Paint Horse Show. The association's premier event, World Show draws competitors from across the country, and even internationally.
Thirteen titles were awarded during the Open and Amateur portion of the show including:
Gay Bar Drummer was the 2007 Oscar Crigler Cattle Award winner. The 7-year-old stallion, owned by Joni Voloshin of Craig, Colo., made a well-rounded showing in the cattle events under the guidance of Jack Wright, with a World Championship in Senior Working Cowhorse and Top 10 placings in four other classes for a total of 58 points. Awards presented for the Oscar Crigler Cattle Award include: a saddle pad, courtesy of APHA sponsor PRO Orthopedics, a pair of western boots, courtesy of APHA sponsor Lucchese, and an embroidered World Show 2007 blanket, courtesy of APHA sponsor Big D.
Docs Delta Dude took the High-Point Western Horse award, earning the distinction with Top 10 showings in six classes and a World Championship in Senior Steer Stopping and a Reserve World title in the Senior Heeling class. The 9-year-old stallion was ridden by Steve Orth and Robbie Doyce for owner Ron Bullard of Woodland Park, Colo. For the title, Docs Delta Dude and Ron Bullard took home a Western trophy saddle, courtesy of Blue Ribbon Custom Tack, a PRO saddle pad, courtesy of PRO Orthopedics, a pair of full-quill ostrich boots, courtesy of Lucchese, $500 cash, courtesy of APHA and an embroidered 2007 World Show blanket, courtesy of Big D.
The 2007 Barnmaster High-Point Exhibitor was Jason Martin of Pilot Point, Texas. This award is presented to the exhibitor who earns the most points in a minimum of two categories at the World Show. These categories include Halter and at least one of six other specific categories. Martin placed horses in the Top 10 of Open competition seven times during the course of the week, including four World Championships, a Reserve World title and two other Top Five placings.
Martin rode several horses to accumulate points for the title, including: Zippos Redemption, owned by Renee Jobe and Chelsea Bain; Sensational Blonde, owned by Buddy and Renee Jobe; Real Groovy, owned by Susan Wilson; Oughta Be Sensational, owned by Marylyn Caliendo; and Mystical Machine, owned by Susan and Taylor Lynn Prince. He received a product certificate for $7,500 courtesy of Barnmaster.
Kathleen Beaumont of Calimesa, Calif., was the Reserve All-Around Novice Amateur winner. Beaumont rode her 6-year-old geldi ng, Amigos Top Investment, to the finals in four classes, where she earned a Reserve World title in Novice Working Hunter and placed in the Top 10 in three others. For the title, Beaumont received a saddle pad, courtesy of PRO Orthopedics, a pair of Western boots, courtesy of Lucchese, and a felt hat, courtesy of APHA sponsor Bailey Hats.
Linda Jessup of Whiterocks, Utah, was the All-Around Novice Amateur winner. She and her 8-year-old gelding, Cockeyed Cowboy, were the World Champions in Novice Hunt Seat Equitation, a Reserve in Novice Trail. The 45 & Over All-Around Amateur Award was a new award for 2007. It was presented to the horse-and-rider team who earned the most points in a minimum of three categories of competition at the World Show within their age group. The 2007 45 & Over All-Around Amateur was Susan Wilson of Ramona, Calif., who accumulated 98 points on her 9-year-old gelding, Real Groovy. For the achievement, Wilson was awarded with a Gist Silversmiths trophy buckle, courtesy of APHA.
Casey Hicks of Williamsvile, Mo., riding Senoras Delly was the Reserve All-Around Amateur. Hicks and the 8-year-old mare, owned by Joy and Ken Hicks, have earned High-Point awards in e ach of Hicks' three World Show appearances. This year, they earned three World Championships and a Reserve title in the Amateur roping events. For the title, Hicks received a Western trophy saddle, courtesy of Blue Ribbon Custom Tack, a saddle pad, courtesy of PRO Orthopedics and a pair of boots, courtesy of Lucchese.
Heather Meyer of Tuscon, Ariz., rode Im Original to the All-Around Amateur Award this year. The duo had top finishes in seven classes at the 2007 World Show, including World Championships in Amateur Horsemanship, Showmanship, Trail and Western Riding and a Reserve title in Amateur Hunt Seat Equitation at her third World Show. Im Original is a 13-year-old gelding owned by Robert & Catherine Meyer.
The duo also captured the All-Around 19-44 title. They earned a Gist Silversmiths trophy buckle for their achievement, courtesy of APHA. Awards for the All-Around Amateur were: a beautiful three-horse aluminum trailer, courtesy of Hart Trailers, a saddle pad, courtesy of PRO Orthopedics, full-quill ostrich boots, courtesy of Lucchese, a Buck Taylor print, courtesy of Western Horseman Magazine, $1,000 cash, courtesy of APHA.
The horse that earned both the High-Point English Horse and Reserve All-Around Open Horse Awards at the 2007 World Championship Paint Horse Show was the 4-year-old stallion The Big Sensation. Owned by Tammy Dyer of Cornelius, N.C., and shown by her daughter, Sharnai, in Amateur classes, this horse was ridden to Top 10 placings in six open classes under the direction of Nancy Ryan, Tracy Baer, and Charlie Cole -including a World Championship in Junior Working Hunter and a Reserve World title in Junior Hunter Hack.

The 2007 All-Around Open Horse is Real Groovy, owned by Susan Wilson of Ramona, Calif. While Susan rode "Groovy" to 45 & Over All-Around Amateur honors, the 9-year-old gelding's class line-up didn't end there.
He was ridden to top finishes in Open competition by Ryan Painter, Charlie Cole, Jason Martin, Beth Case and Tracy Baer, as well-finishing out the week with a World Champion title in Senior Hunter Hack, and a Reserve World title in Senior Hunter Under Saddle among others.
Along the way, this horse also captured the Super Gelding title. Awards for the Super Gelding are: $500 cash, courtesy of APHA; a saddle pad, courtesy of PRO Orthopedics and a pair of Western boots, courtesy of Lucchese.

An annual non-qualifying event for registered American Paint Horses, the World Show included 183 classes, five challenge series classes, three sweepstakes events, a select sale, a trade show and many other special activities. Exhibitors demonstrated their skills in halter, Western, English, cattle, driving and speed classes.
