High-Point Winners
*The following are preliminary, unofficial results from APHA.
Lana Wirsig of Clinton, Missouri, was the Reserve All-Around Youth 13 & Under. Riding Zipmund Freud, a 4-year-old black overo gelding, Lana won a Championship in Youth Trail 13 & Under and a Reserve Championship in Youth Showmanship 13 & Under. The pair also had four additional top tens. Zipmund Freud was sired by Zip Em Up and is out of Bay Sensation. Lana was awarded a pair of Western boots, courtesy of Boulet, and a bridle bag, courtesy of BMB.
Ali Eidson of Abilene, Texas, was the All-Around Youth 13 & Under winner. Ali and her horse, Dynamic Discovery, a 12-year-old gelding, won three Championships in Youth Hunter Under Saddle 13 & Under, Youth Hunt Seat Equitation 13 & Under and Youth Western Horsemanship 13 & Under. They also had two other top ten placings. Dynamic Discovery was sired by Dynamic Deluxe and is out of Quincy Tinkerbell. Hanna Jane McKinney of Collinsville, Texas, earned the High-Point Western Youth award. She and her mare, Catch My Speed, an 11-year-old brown overo, won Championships in Youth Goat Tying 13 & Under and in Youth Pole Bending 13 & Under. They also had one other top ten placing. Catch My Speed was sired by Catchum and is out of Full Speed Paloma. Erica Lang of Tomales, California, was the Reserve All-Around Youth 14-18 award, exhibiting Shine My Zipper. She and the 12-year-old sorrel overo gelding were the Champions in Trail and Showmanship and the Reserve Champion in Western Pleasure. They also had six additional top tens. Shine My Zipper was sired by Zippo Jack Bar and is out of Rancholm Delight. Erica was awarded a pair of Western boots, courtesy of Boulet, and a bridle bag, courtesy of BMB.
The High-Point English Youth award and the All-Around Youth 14-18 honors went to Alisa Bernhard of Germantown, Wisconsin. Riding Fleetstreet Max, a six-year-old sorrel overo gelding, Alisa captured a Championship in Hunter Hack and Reserve Championships in Hunt Seat Equitation, Trail and Working Hunter at the 2003 APHA World Show. In addition, the pair also earned seven other top ten placings. Fleetstreet Max was sired by Fleet Machine and is out of Cash Bar Maiden. Reserve All-Around Novice Amateur went to Katy Otis of Cayucos, California. Riding her 8-year-old black overo gelding, Toys In The Hood, Katy won the Championship in Novice Amateur Hunter Under Saddle and Reserve Championships in both Novice Amateur Hunt Seat Equitation and Amateur Senior Hunter Under Saddle. The pair also earned top tens in Novice Amateur Hunter Hack and Novice Amateur Showmanship. Toys In The Hood was sired by More Toys and out of My Lady Rolka, a Quarter Horse mare. Katy won a pair of a Western boots, courtesy of Boulet and a pair of spur straps, courtesy of Circle Y of Yoakum.
The 2003 All-Around Novice Amateur was Amy Thomasson of Yorba Linda, California. Riding Norfleet Exposure, an 11-year-old sorrel overo gelding, Amy earned a Championship in Novice Amateur Western Riding. The pair also had top tens in Novice Amateur Hunt Seat Equitation, Novice Amateur Showmanship, Novice Amateur Horsemanship and Novice Amateur Western Pleasure. Norfleet Exposure was sired by Sir Norfleet and out of Sassy Brick. The Reserve All-Around Amateur was Carly Veldman of South Bend, Indiana, riding Picasso By Q. Picasso By Q, an 8-year-old sorrel overo gelding, and Carly won a Reserve Championship in Amateur Horsemanship and a third in Amateur Showmanship at Halter. Also contributing to their All-Around title were three fourth place finishes in Amateur Senior Hunter Under Saddle, Amateur Hunter Hack and Amateur Hunt Seat Equitation. The pair also received a fifth place finish in Amateur Western Riding. Picasso By Q was sired by Quorum and is out of Elegant Impression. For her efforts, Carly received a pair of Western Boots, courtesy of Boulet, and a pair of spur straps, courtesy of Circle Y of Yoakum.
2003 All-Around Amateur went to Ryan Read of Laurel, Mississippi. Ryan and her 9-year-old sorrel overo mare, Too Sexy Formyspot, won Championships in Amateur Western Horsemanship, Amateur Hunt Seat Equitation, Trail and Amateur Western Riding. The team also won a Reserve Championship in Amateur Showmanship and a top ten in Amateur Hunter Hack. Too Sexy Formyspot was sired by Pedo Jones (QH) and out of Thats Sues Cash. The 2003 High-Point Exhibitor was Charlie Cole of Pilot Point, Texas. Charlie won the award at last year’s World Show, too. This year he managed to accumulate 116 points to defend his title. Charlie rode four horses to earn one Championship in Western Riding and one Reserve Championship in Pleasure Driving, along with five other top ten honors. For 2003, Charlie was given a certificate for a 50-foot longe pen, courtesy of Barnmaster.
Daniel B Boom, a 6-year-old sorrel overo owned by Lorenzo and Kathleen Armenta of Whitesboro, Texas, took the World by storm. The Armenta’s horse was honored by three different all-around titles. Daniel B Boom was the recipient of the 2003 Oscar Crigler Cattle Award, the 2003 All-Around Horse title, and the 2003 High-Point Western Performance Horse award. The beautifully muscled stallion was sired by the Quarter Horse stallion, Boomernick, and out of the Quarter Horse mare, Melissa Parker. Casey Hinton, Ron Ralls and Robbie Schroeder exhibited Daniel B Boom. He won Championships in Reining and Steer Stopping and also took top tens in Calf Roping, Heading, Heeling, and Working Cow Horse. Daniel B Boom was awarded with a pair of Western boots, courtesy of Boulet and a Pan-Am blanket, courtesy of BMB, for the Oscar Crigler Award. Sundance Jazz, owned by Dr. Todd and Kristen Hansen of Roseburg, Oregon, was the other super-horse that shook things up at the World. The 4-year-old bay overo gelding also cinched three all-around titles. He won the Reserve All-Around Horse title, High-Point English Performance Horse honors and the Super Gelding Award. Trained and exhibited by both Jerry Erickson and Brian Holmes, Sundance Jazz was the Champion in Junior Pleasure Driving and also in Utility Driving. He also captured the Reserve Championship in Amateur Pleasure Driving and three additional top tens. Sundance Jazz was sired by Sonnys Hot Jazz and is out of Carousel Classic.
