High-Point Winners
Carissa Austin of Hyde Park, Utah, was the Reserve All-Around Youth 13 & Under. Exhibiting Deno Park, an 8-year-old sorrel tobiano gelding, Carissa earned 66 points, including two Reserve World Championships in Trail and Showmanship, along with placing in Hunt Seat Equitation, Reining, Western Riding and Horsemanship. Deno Park was sired by Bold Looker and out of Bunny Ru. She won a pair of Western boots, courtesy of Boulet boots and a bridle bag, courtesy BMB.
Maggie Griffin of Tomball, Texas, was the All-Around Youth 13 & Under, exhibiting her 5-year-old sorrel overo gelding, Loots Encore. They earned 82 points, winning a World Championship in Western Riding, a Reserve World Championship in Hunt Seat Equitation and placing in Hunter Under Saddle, Horsemanship, Western Pleasure and Reining. This was the second year that Maggie was named the All-Around Youth 13 & Under. Loots Encore was sired by CC Colored By Loot and out of Encores Rebel. The High-Point Western Youth was Nathan Carter of Santo, Texas. Riding Boz, Nathan racked up 120 points with the 16-year-old bay tobiano gelding winning a World Championship in Calf Roping, Reserve World Championships in Heading, Heeling and Breakaway, and a third in Steer Stopping. Boz is sired by Okla Secretariat and out of Banger Sue. Christina McGurran of Los Gatos, Calif., was the Reserve All-Around Youth 14-18, exhibiting Just Passing Thru. She and the 10-year-old bay overo gelding were the Reserve World Champions in Horsemanship, Reserve World Champions in Hunter Under Saddle and Working Hunter. They also placed third in Showmanship and Horsemanship and were fourth in Hunt Seat Equitation and Reining. Just Passing Thru was sired by Pass Perfect and out of Awhe Ha. Christina was awarded a pair of Western boots, courtesy of Boulet, and a bridle bag courtesy of BMB.
The High-Point English Youth and All-Around Youth 14-18 was Kelly Emich, of Littleton, Colorado. Riding Sacred Seven, a 12-year-old brown tobiano gelding, Kelly earned 82 English points, with World Championships in Working Hunter, Jumping and Hunt Seat Equitation. She earned an additional 35 points with a Reserve World Championship in Showmanship and placing in Goat Tying, Heading and Reining. The duo earned a total of 117 points. Sacred Seven was sired by Sacred Indian and out of Charge It Darling AQHA. Reserve All-Around Novice Amateur Megan Blye of Cypress, California. Blye and her 6-year-old red dun overo gelding, Katchmyblaze, by Catch My Spots and out of Bow Niner, earned a World Championship in Novice Amateur Working Hunter and a Reserve World Championship in Novice Amateur Hunter Hack for a total of 51 points.

The 2002 All-Around Novice Amateur was Katherine Hall of Arvada, Colorado, and her 7-year-old bay tobiano gelding, Sacred Legato. Hall and Sacred Legato, by Sacred Indian and out of Come Closer, captured a Reserve World Championship in Novice Amateur Showmanship, third places in Hunter Hack, Working Hunter and Hunt Seat Equitation, plus a sixth place finish in Horsemanship for a total of 72 points.

The Reserve All-Around Amateur was Ryan Read of Laurel, Mississippi. Riding Too Sexy Formyspot, by Quarter Horse stallion Pedo Jones and out of Quarter Horse mare Thats Sues Cash, Ryan captured World Championships in Amateur Horsemanship, Amateur Showmanship and Amateur Western Riding, as well as Reserve World Championships in Amateur Hunt Seat Equitation and Amateur Trail. She also earned points in Amateur Hunter Under Saddle and Amateur Hunter Hack, for a total of 130 points.

2002 All-Around Amateur Sara Beth Simons of Aubrey, Texas took the World by storm this year. Riding her 7-year-old gelding Sonnys Cayannecraz, by Quarter Horse stallion Sonnys Par Bar and out of Crazy Lady, Simons won a World Championship in Amateur Trail, Reserve World Championships in Amateur Hunter Under Saddle and Amateur Showmanship, as well as third place finishes in Amateur Hunt Seat Equitation, Amateur Horsemanship and Amateur Western Riding. She was also sixth in Amateur Hunter Hack and Amateur Western Pleasure for a total of 131 points.

The 2002 High-Point Exhibitor was Charlie Cole of Pilot Point, Texas. Earning a total of 183 points, Cole showed five horses, including Reddys Review, Ima Pretty Cadet, Zip Me, Too Sexyformyspot and Isthatyourfinalanswer. He captured World Championships in Junior and Senior Trail, as well as a Reserve World Championships in Junior, Senior and Utility Pleasure Driving. Placing in every class on every horse he showed, Cole also earned points in Western Riding, Western Pleasure and Halter.

Smoke N Black Hawk captured the Oscar Crigler Cattle Award, High-Point Western Horse and the Reserve All-Around Horse title. Owned by Jay and Barbara Bowman of High Eagle Ranch in Delta, Colorado, the 7-year-old stallion is by Smoke N Cotton and out of Hawks Grannada. Earning a World Championship in Senior Working Cow Horse, Reserve World Championships in Senior Calf Roping and Senior Reining, third place in Senior Heeling and fourth place in Senior Steer Stopping, Smoke N Black Hawk earned a total of 88 points.
For his Oscar Crigler Cattle Award, Smoke N Black Hawk's owners received a pair of Western boots from Boulet and a Pan-Am blanket, courtesy of BMB Tack.
The Bowmans also were presented with $500 from APHA, a Western saddle by Circle Y of Yoakum, a pair of full-quill ostrich boots, courtesy of Boulet, a Pan-Am blanket from BMB Tack and an 11-by-14 photograph, courtesy of K.C. Montgomery for the High Point Western Horse title.
For the Reserve All-Around title, they received Western boots from Boulet and a pair of silver engraved spur straps, courtesy of Circle Y of Yoakum.
The 2002 Super Gelding, High-Point English Horse and the 2002 World Champion All-Around Horse was Reddys Review, owned by Shawnee Wayman, of Salt Lake City, Utah. The gelding is by Reddy Robin and out of Quarter Horse mare Spanish Stone. Trained by Jason Martin and Charlie Cole of High Point Performance Horses in Pilot Point, Texas, and Barry Beach of Barry Beach Performance Horses in Salt Lake City, Utah, the gelding was shown at the World Show by Charlie Cole, Jason Martin, Ryan Painter and Karen Skelley. Reddys Review earned a World Championship in Working Hunter, Reserve World Championships in Senior Pleasure Driving and Utility Pleasure Driving, placed third in Senior Western Pleasure, fifth in Senior Trail, sixth in Senior Hunter Hack and earned points in Senior Western Riding. Reddys Review earned a total of 107 points.
