J. Contestants who have competed on or are members of an intercollegiate horse judging team are ineligible to compete.

II. Classes to be judged

III. Contest Procedures

A. Contestants will be allowed 15 minutes to place each class.
B. It is the responsibility of the contestant to hand in the card with his/her placing of the class to the group leader before, or as soon as, time is called.
C. Oral reasons will be given for performance and/or halter classes. The contestants will be notified as to which classes will be required for reasons before the completion of judging all classes.
The contestant will have two minutes to give their reasons to the official. Contestants will not be permitted to use notes while giving reasons. Oral reasons are expected to indicate the contestant’s justification for their placement of the class.
D. A group leader will be placed in charge of each group of contestants, to supervise them and to answer any questions that do not pertain to the actual placing of the animal under consideration.
E. While the contest is in progress, there will be no conferring between contestants and any spectator except under the direct supervision of the group leader or the judging contest representative. Conferring between contestants is forbidden.
Failure to abide by regulations will result in the
disqualification of the contestant.

IV. Scoring and Final Standings

A. Based upon placings and oral reasons. Fifty points will constitute a perfect score in placing the animals, as well as fifty points constituting a perfect reasons score. In classes with no reasons required, only placings will be considered.
B. Any ties in the tabulation of the standings will be broken by reasons scores or using the National Horse Judging Team Coaches Association guidelines:
Individual Halter Ties: Ties are broken on total overall score.
Individual Reasons Ties: Ties are broken on overall halter placings.
Individual Performance Ties: Ties are broken on the total of the two reason classes placing scores. The second tie-breaker is determined by using the overall placing scores for the halter and performance classes.
Junior Team Reasons Ties: Ties are broken on the total of the reasons class placing scores, less the fourth dropped score (if the team consisted of four ontestants).
Senior Team Reasons Ties: Ties are broken on the total of the two reasons classes placing scores, less the fourth dropped score (if the team consisted of four contestants).
C. Once the awards are announced and presented, there will be no change.
